Wahrheit beruht auf Fakten, ehrlichen,
wahren Informationen. Und Fakten - belastbare und überprüfbare Fakten
- können selten, wenn überhaupt, im Internet gefunden werden (Ich spreche
hier nicht von Tonnage- oder Leistungsangaben zu Fahrzeugen, sondern von
tiefergehenden Informationen).
 Auch Bücher sollten immer unter diesem
grundsätzlichen Aspekt betrachtet werden:
Wie sicher sind die Informationen?
Ähnlich verhält es sich mit
Erinnerungen von ehemaligen Soldaten. Diese sind immens wertvoll und öffnen
unbekannte Perspektiven, sind aber naturgemäß immer subjektiv.
Daher sollten auch derartige Quellen
überprüft werden. Eine solche Überprüfung kann, und sollte in Archive anhand
von originalen Akten erfolgen.
Ich mußte einen durchaus schmerzhaften
Lernprozeß durchlaufen - begleitet, angespornt und oft durchgetrieben von
einen der profiliertesten Sachbuchautoren in diesem Themenbereich. Ich
verdanke ihm viel.
Ich habe meinen Weg gefunden - er
führt in die Archive! Archivarbeit ist anstrengend, zeitaufwendig - und
teuer. Allzuoft, mit einem klaren Ziel vor Augen, brachte eine Woche im
Archiv nichts zu eben diesem Thema! Zum Glück ist der Beifang ebensooft
überragend, das ist wohl nichts für Träger von Scheuklappen.
Ich werde weitermachen. Leider wird
ein Leben wohl nicht ausreichen um mehr als einen groben Überblick zu
bekommen.

Truth is based on facts - on plain, honest information. Facts - resilient
and verifiable facts - can seldom, if at all, be found on the internet
(I am
not speaking of simple vehicle data such as weight or performance, but of
more profound information).
Books, too, should be considered in the same way: How certain is the
information?
It is very similar with the recollections of veterans. These are most
precious and open unknown prospects, but are by nature invariably
subjective.
For this very reason such sources have to be checked. Such an examination
can, and should, take place in archives using original files.
I had to pass through quite a painful learning process - attended,
cheered
on and
often urged by probably the most distinguished specialised book author in
this subject. I owe a lot to him.
I
have found my way - it led me to the archives. Work in archives is
stressful,
time consuming - and expensive. All too often a complete week in the archive
with a clear aim found none of the information I was searching for.
Fortunately
the by-product of information found while looking for something else is just
as often incredible, but not for those who wear blinkers and ignore whatever
is not the subject of their search.

on. Sadly,
one life won´t be enough to get more than a broad overview.
